Electricity in Manitoba |
Electricity is produced publicly for homes, industry, and businesses through three methods in the province of Manitoba. These are hydroelectric, wind, and thermal.
Hydroelectric uses the movement of water to generate electricity, and makes up the vast majority of Manitoba's on-grid electrical production (Manitoba Hydro, 2008). Wind uses the motion and movement of air currents to generate electricity. Within Manitoba, there are two wind farms (Halas, n.d.). Thermal electricity generation within Manitoba, uses the combustion of coal, natural gas, or diesel to produce power (Manitoba Hydro, 2008). |
HydroelectricThe movement of water produces the vast majority of Manitoba's electricity.
|
WindManitoba is home to a growing wind industry.
|
ThermalThe combustion of natural gas, diesel, and coal, makes up a small proportion of Manitoba's electricity at the cost of pollution.
